This is a fantastic, inexpensive tool for estimating the size of a diamond by it's "face-up" proportions. You simply hold the transparent estimator over the top of your diamond. Keep changing sizes until the diamond fills the outline and that is your carat weight.
It has shapes for rounds, straight baguettes, tapered baguettes, emerald cuts, marquis cuts, square cuts, and pear shapes up to 5 carats.
As a gemologist, I use this on a daily basis, as it is impractical to remove gemstones from their settings to weight them for appraisal purposes.
If you used this for online sales, please state that your gem weights are approximate if you do not remove them from their settings.
